Samantha Morgan Sanders from Legend of the Protectors.
Sam lay on the beach, soaking up the sun.
“So, beautiful,” Doug whispered. “What says you?”
She laughed. “I says, no way.”
“Aw, come on.” He sat up and stared into her near black eyes. “Why? We’ve been dating for five weeks, and I’m kinda getting tired of the games. You’re not the only girl in school you know.”
Sam pushed off her blanket and stood up. “So date one of them. I’m not the one who asked you out in the first place, remember?”
Doug jumped up. “Fine. Maybe I will. You’re not really worth it anyway.”
He stormed off, leaving Sam abandoned, in San Diego, thirty miles from home.

My first character was Kate in Illusions:
I have only one memory that is mine alone. All others have been reviewed and catalogued as they rightfully should. Some taken from me completely, others left for me to enjoy, a very few that were left to provide me some pain….or strength depending on how you look at it.
My memories of when I was 8 years old are pretty monotonous. It was my first year at The Academy. Running for 12 hours every day will do that to you. Not that there wasn’t variation during the day. Running with a bag of large stones on my back, running with a log dragging behind me, or running while pushing one large object after another. Running in the warm rain, running in the frigid snow, running in the scorching heat. It all came back to running for that first year.
They said it was to make us stronger, increase our endurance, and build muscle. Looking back, I can see that it did do that – but what it also did was break your spirit. It winnowed out the weak of body and mind. I started the year with 227 students; I ended the year with 57.
