When my husband comes home from work the first thing he does is empty his pockets onto the counter. I used to have a bowl for him to empty it into. It overflowed with junk. So we got a basket. Within a week, he’d filled it to the brim. I refuse to clean them out, so they are now floating around in a junk drawer. And I have resigned myself to my husband’s routine.
When I come home, the first thing I do is kick off my shoes. At one point, I had to pick up seven pairs of shoes out of my living room. And my version of picking up shoes is tossing them willy-nilly into my closet so that I’m searching for three minutes around the closet floor the next time I want to wear them. Yep, that’s my routine.
What routines do your characters have? Do they double check the locks on their doors before going to bed? Do they water their plants in a certain order? Do they always brush their teeth after applying lipstick and have to reapply?

Well, Jeff is a serial killer his routine is to remember his victims by looking at a small trinket that he kept after he killed them. He has other routines on how to find his next girl. Nicole is a college student and is living for the first time on her own. She has a pretty messy room and doesn’t care. No mom to tell her pick it up. Her routine is probably to not have one. She is finding her own.
I do the same thing with my shoes too by the way. I was just cussing myself out the other day cause I couldn’t find my flip flops that I wanted to wear.

When my MC gets back from a mission, she always goes to her bf’s room for a visit and junk food.
And though it’s not a routine- another character is always running his hands through his hair or shoving them in his pockets.

Drew doesn’t go home a lot if she’s on a case. But when she does, she picks up her pile of mail, shuffles through it, and throws it on the coffee table. Then she kicks off her shoes, goes to the kitchen and makes coffee, and picks up a book.
Of course, since Talmage came into the picture, I’m sure that will change.

Good question! I think that my mc has a habit of not showing emotion through blatant facial expressions, but through eye contact. C’est pas normale, mais c’est elle.
