Good To Know You

shampoo bottles

Do your characters brush their teeth before or after they shower? Is it shampoo first, then soap and condition or do they use the same soap for everything?

Tell me your character’s personal hygiene regimen.

I love, love these questions! These little details are so very revealing.

Jane’s personal hygiene regimen:

Jane was a pro at collecting hotel amenities and asking for samples at the Estee Lauder & Lancome Counter. She never failed to nip a bottle of salon quality shampoo, bar of French-milled soap, or tube of Rembrant from her sister Nell’s hall closet when she had the chance.

It worked in her 20s. She looked good and saved money for more important things. But she’s 32 now, and even high-end products can’t cover the years of two-ended candle burning. Too many drinks and drugs, too little sleep.

Jane was forced to rethink her definition of “good stuff” and develop new habits that didn’t start as vices.

Alexis hates getting ready, so she does it as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Brushes her teeth in the shower and throws on whatever clothes she can find. She is big on products for her hair, though, as she can’t stand the curl.
She’s young, but wise, and knows deep down that her appearance isn’t what matters, even though she’s gorgeous.

Kate uses the generic Academy soap for everything. Showers can be a luxury when she’s on the job, so she’ll take long ones in hotels when she can.

Sam climbs into the shower with her eyes still closed. She washes her hair, rinses, uses conditioner and lets it sit while she scrubs the rest of her and shaves. Then she rinses conditioner.
Once out, she eats breakfast and then brushes her teeth.

This is a great question, and one I could answer easily with Sam, but not so easily with other characters. I’ll have to think of it with the rest. :)
