I’m loving the responses to this. I’m soooo glad I’m not the only one who thinks my characters are real and feel I’m just around and a part of it all because I actually know how to type lol

I find the only thing I’m in charge of is making sure I’m sitting in front of the computer, fingers tapping on the keyboard Since I don’t really plot things out, I’m never too sure what’s going to happen until my characters actually start doing whatever it is that’s the next step.

If I find myself fighting with my characters, it’s usually because I want them to do something out of character. I can’t let it keep me from writing, though, or I’d never get anything finished. Sometimes you have to push them around a bit, show them you are actually the boss. And then figure out why they don’t want to go where you want to push them.

Awesome! So I’m not the only one. I think it’s pretty cool that these people who don’t *really* exist have lives and we get to be the ones to tell their stories.
I wish all readers knew what goes into every single story…

My characters are totally in charge. They keep at me until I write them correctly. Which can be difficult, since I rarely agree with them.

Good grief, I’m certainly not the one in charge of my stories. Every time I try to make things happen the way I think they should, I find those sections are the weakest & need to be cut out later. Yes, it does mean that it takes awhile to get things written… but in most cases, it means a better final product.

My hubby thinks it’s weird that my characters are in control. I think it’s weird that he can’t understand it. Go figure!

Well, if your characters are taking charge, it is nothing but your subconscious coming to the fore and asserting itself.

And we all know that the best creative writing is done by the subconscious.

So, way to go! That is exactly how it should be.
