Hi Damyanti,

I write the whole thing on my laptop and take out printouts when I need to edit. I think many fiction writers do that. No peculiar habit, then.

I have the worst writting habits! I have 3 very demanding kids, I part-time EMT, and I have a preschool, writting is when I have a minute and it comes far and few in between. I would love to have some more time to myself, but I am planning on it this summer! No more preschool and I will be huge pregnant, so not going to beable to run much on the ambulance. We shall see about the demanding children. Lock them up in the attic? Any other suggestions on what to do with them during the summer? *sigh!

I write most my openings in notebooks. Actually, I write a lot of scenes in notebooks. I'd die without them. But most of my work is done at a computer. And I write or edit at least some, everyday. I may skip here and there, but not often.

And I have to listen to music when I'm writing, but not always while I edit. Sometimes the music gets in the way of editing, but never in the way of writing. Weird, huh?

So, I believe that you should write a little each day, and if you feel you're too busy, buy a note book and scribble something in it.

G.S., thanks, yes, I need a therapist! I feel lucky I can do re-writes and second drafts at my desk, just not any first drafts. Thanks for the words of encouragement, and please share a fav writing habit of yours if you like :)

Liz, I should be so lucky! Writing a first draft on a laptop is my dream! Music? um, I do switch on Italian music when I'm writing for an Italian website, but other than that I like the silence in the real world.... that way I can hear what my characters are hearing!

Pink Laptop, Jamie? :)
I'm sure it makes you feel like a writer...mine is white Mac, maybe I should think of a printed/ colored jacket? *eyes gleaming in realization*

Hmmm...my habit is definitely sitting at the computer. Couldn't write by hand I don't think. Listening to music really seems to help too. It needs to be specific to the mood I'm writing about though.

I can't really say. I think if it works for you then keep with it. the sore back is probably not too fun however. I suggest getting a massage therapist. hehehe! No really, JK Rowling wrote it all on notebooks before typing her novels. That is just how she prefered to do it. If you prefer to freehand it then go for it. I know Sarah had tons of notebooks full of her first stuff. Keep up your work and I bet you'll find that it is you and your style and you'll love it someday. I hope anyway!
