Good to know you

family tree

Family History is big now days. People spend much time and effort to trace back their ancestors. Personally, on my dad’s side, we can go back to the 1400’s. On my mother’s Cherokee side, not nearly as far.

How far back can you go on your characters? Do you know their parents or grandparents names? No need to chart back four generations unless it plays into the story, but with a little history, our characters come more alive.

So, do a little soul digging. What are the names of your characters parents, brothers and sisters, and maybe even grandparents?

Kate doesn’t know her parents…which is key in book two. I haven’t thought about my love interest’s grandparents…or even his heritage, though I am thinking some Irish and Italian mixed in. Great question!

Alexis thought she was half Spanish, half Italian…but now she knows that’s not true.

Kyle (who is slowly growing for my NaNo book) really doesn’t have a clue, either. She’s got a whole slew of problems…I like that this post will get me thinking about where she really comes from as far as family.
Thanks, sweets. You’re Always a help!!!! =)

I’ll go with my one I’m editing now.

Laif comes from strong Irish and Spanish families. I will think of his grandparents and so on. He has 6 siblings which all take part in the novel.

Memphis knows her mom and her grandmother. Her father, well, it could be one of the men in the group that raped her mother, so she’s not sure who. She has no family alive to ask and her step dad’s in prison for killing her mom.

My characters for one story have not only a family tree but an entire complicated family time line!

That was my favorite part to make so far!
