Marybeth mentioned that she likes things complicated in her novels. I happen to agree. If they don’t shed tears, then why would a reader. So the question is this:

The same things that make most people cry, I think: physical and emotional pain, loss, injustice, humiliation, frustration . . . .

More than anything else, frustration makes my character Drew cry. She can usually hold back when the emotions are sad or hurt, but being mad and frustrated always brings tears to her eyes.

Nothing….my characters usually refuse to cry. They are just like me
