Thanks Lisa for the great post. I for one love to research. Half of the fun in writing is learning about new places and things. For me, if it can be true, it must.

And Lisa, welcome back anytime.

Ooh, research is so much fun! I write fantasy, but I'm a fanatic about keeping the non-magical details of the world correct.

I've done some wacky stuff for the sake of authenticity, like grind acorns into flour and fry them into acorn cakes. My favorite bit of research, though, was a visit to the Biltmore House in North Carolina. Several of my stories include mansions, and this was better by far than looking at floor plans on the Internet!

History of coffee and wildflowers – I am quite impressed with your research subjects. I love when you can do research in person, I find it makes my writing much more realistic. Reading about a subject is harder for me to incorporate.

Oh, I love books with trivia!
I love to research history. I used to do it for fun, when I'd read a historical romance novel and wanted to learn more about a time period or character.
Recently I decided to try my hand at writing a Regency Paranormal romance. During the research I found out that the first vampire story in English was published in 1819 by Lord Byron's physician, Dr. John Polidori. The result: The 1820's had a vampire craze much like the one we are having today.
I set the story in London in 1821, and found a lot of great historical events and figures to bring rich color to my story. It was the most entertaining writing experience in my life.

Love the book cover. It's beautiful. I started each of my chapters with a 1920s slang term. That was fun research too.

I love Flowers and the book sounds fascinating.
