I write fantasy, but I'm a fanatic about keeping the non-magical details of the world correct. I've done some wacky stuff for the sake of authenticity, like <a href="http://anicalewis.livejournal.com/18205.html" rel="nofollow">grind acorns into flour</a> and <a href="http://anicalewis.livejournal.com/18643.html" rel="nofollow">fry them into acorn cakes</a>. My favorite bit of research, though, was a visit to the Biltmore House in North Carolina. Several of my stories include mansions, and this was better by far than looking at floor plans on the Internet! Ooh, research is so much fun! During the research I found out that the first vampire story in English was published in 1819 by Lord Byron's physician, Dr. John Polidori. The result: The 1820's had a vampire craze much like the one we are having today. I set the story in London in 1821, and found a lot of great historical events and figures to bring rich color to my story. It was the most entertaining writing experience in my life. Oh, I love books with trivia!
