Time gone by

Change, it happens to all of us, it is unstoppable. In the past year I have had my fourth child, promoted to EMT- Intermediate, gone back to school for my nursing degree, and had two foster daughters come and live with us. One has gone off to college, the other has just moved in.
All the changes in my life have kept me so busy that I realized I haven’t even worked on my stories for a year. I haven’t even logged in on this site for a year. I have been so involved with my life I couldn’t let any creative flows through. It is time for me to take back one thing that I love and make room for it with all the other things that I love. I am finally getting a full nights sleep and I am not bogged down with loads, on loads of homework! So here is to my summer of independence in writing!
Now, how do I get back into it? I am lost as were to begin. Any help or suggestions would be fantastic

I’ve been there, in a similar way. My suggestion – find a story you love, one that is haunting you, one that can’t wait to be told, and start. One word at a time, build that story. Let it flow.

It also helps to set yourself a schedule. Write mornings, if that’s your best time. Write evenings if it works better. Just have a set time to work on writing and then do it.

Now I need to go follow my own advice…

Oh, my heart goes out to you. I think everyone has been there at one time or another.
One thing that has helped me (and I was surprised it did) was to join one of the 100 words a day challenge. It is a yahoo group that you post to daily and commit to writing at least 100 words everyday. It seemed silly to me at first, but when I made the commitment I found myself knowing I had to pull out at least 15 mins for writing everyday. Some days I stopped right at word 100 but others it really flowed for me. What was great was it set my brain up to make it a habit (like brushing my teeth.) I did fall off the wagon, but I didn’t beat myself up and just hopped back on.

Keep us all posted on your progress.I’m sure we would all like to know if any of the suggestions helped or if you have found some of your own.

Congratulations on making it through to a break!

One thing that helps me is to spend some time READING great books, especially those in the genre I write. I also like reading Writer’s Digest and various literary blogs (like this one! And, for some hilarity, <a href="http://www.therejectionist.com/"Rejectionist and The Intern). Of course, these can be a distraction risk, but I find that writing talk helps me get into a writing place. :)
